🐷 Pig Tales and Fire Trails 🔥
Primary 1 have been enjoying The Three Little Pigs as part of our Traditional Stories topic. We had lots of conversations about the fire in the story, so today we brought our literacy learning outside during Forest School.
We learned important fire safety rules. Four canes marked the fire boundary and each child stayed on their own spot outside it. We know that only adults light and put out a fire and we used walking feet at all times. Mrs Colgan had her hair tied back and a bucket of water was beside us for safety.
We scrunched newspaper and used cotton wool with a little Vaseline (petroleum jelly) as fuel to help start the fire. We added small sticks called kindling and then larger sticks once it was burning well. We talked about the heat, smoke and smell. Using extendable skewers, we toasted marshmallows and made s’mores. Mrs Rafferty’s SPSC class joined us for this special learning experience.
Such a fun morning bringing our story to life outdoors!
