P6/7 Step Up for Inclusive Communication
P6/7 recently took part in another wonderful RCSLT Buddy Chat lesson as part of their journey towards becoming kind, caring and confident communicators.
Buddy Chat is a communication project developed by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) to help children understand speech, language and communication needs and learn practical ways to support others who may communicate differently. Through engaging activities and discussions, pupils learn how they can help create a more inclusive environment both in school and beyond.
This week's lessons focused on stammering and unclear speech. The children explored some of the challenges that people can experience when communicating and learned strategies from the Buddy Chat High 5 to help ensure everyone feels listened to, understood and included.
Mrs Caroline Morris, Speech and Language Therapist, and Mrs Colgan were extremely proud of the maturity, empathy and respect shown by the class throughout the session. The children threw themselves wholeheartedly into every activity and discussion, taking the lesson very seriously. We were genuinely amazed by how much they gained from the experience and by the thoughtful insights they shared.
As always, our pupils demonstrated what wonderful role models they are, showing a real commitment to supporting those within our school community who may experience difficulties with speech, language or communication.
Why not ask your child about the lesson and see if they can tell you about stammering, unclear speech and the Buddy Chat High 5 strategies? We are sure they will have lots to share!
