P1 Spooktacular Halloween Activities

28th Oct 2017

How great do we look in our Halloween costumes?? Thank you so much for all the effort that went in to costumes to give the children such a fun and exciting day in school before the holidays.

On Friday, the children had a spooky literacy lesson! They worked in groups to sort lots of disgusting ingredients to make spells in their cauldrons. Each cauldron had either the sound 'c', 'a' or 't' therefore the boys and girls had to put their witches hats on and figure out the correct cauldron that the toes, caterpillars, ants etc., belonged in! They worked very well in groups giving each other help and taking turns.

They made spooky spiders using paper plates, paint, straws, card, ribbon and googly eyes. We hope you can hang them to decorate your house for Halloween.

The children all helped to carve a happy pumpkin! Some of them didn't like the smell of pumpkin but still helped Mrs Colgan to scoop out the seeds from inside. They gave the pumpkin a circular lid, two triangular eyes, a rectangular nose and a mouth. Everyone was so happy to see his big smile lit up when we put a candle inside!

Mrs Donnelly organised a fashion show in the assembly hall for all the children to show off their Halloween costumes. The children loved walking on the red carpet and also learned some useful trick or treating tips to help stay safe at this time of year.

Finally, what better way to end the day than with a Halloween party? The boys and girls listened to music, rhymes and stories and shared all the sweets that everyone brought to school. Thank you so much for your generosity!
