Our Primary 1 children had a spellbinding time during Maths Week Ireland as they joined Winnie the Witch and Wilbur for a special Forest School Maths Hunt. The children received a magic letter from Winnie, who had dropped all her magical number ingredients in the forest and needed their help to find them.
With great enthusiasm, the children set off to explore the outdoors. They counted leaves, sticks and pinecones, sorted objects by size and shape and used wonderful mathematical words like more, less, equal, long and short. Each group worked together to complete Winnie’s challenges such as lining up sticks from shortest to longest and making the number digits using stones.
Back at base, the children used their collections to make magical maths creations, including number broomsticks and shape houses. Everyone showed fantastic teamwork, focus and imagination as they helped Winnie get her maths magic back.
We finished our adventure with a sprinkle of maths dust and a fun counting song to celebrate all the wonderful learning that took place. 🌳🔢✨
