Lots of reasons to celebrate!

8th Apr 2019

This weekend the children from St Colman's PS excelled themselves in two major events in the school's calendar.

On Saturday over 50 children from P1-7 participated in Feis an Duin in Newcastle. The entries this year reached a staggering figure of 192. The children had entered the poetry, story telling, dialogue, conversation, history and scholarship sections with resounding success. This success culminated in the school being awarded the Sciath na nOg shield for the fourteenth consecutive year! This is a remarkable achievement for St Colman's and indicates the high standard of Irish language which is prevalent throughout the entire school. The Irish language is an integral part of each child's learning in St Colman's. Our continued success is all down to the dedication and hard work of Mrs Mc Loughlin who co-ordinates the Irish language programme for the staff and children. We thank her most sincerely for her sterling work and enthusiasm over many years.

Congratulations to the children who worked so hard, staying behind many days at break and lunch time to do their very best. Thank you also to their parents for their support during the year and for providing transport on Saturday.

On Sunday our quiz team travelled to the Credit Union Schools Quiz Final 2019 in the RDS, Dublin. This was the first time a school from the Kilkeel Credit Union Branch had reached the final. It was a truly wonderful day enjoyed by the team, Logan, Caiden, Lucas and Kayden, their families, supporters and staff. The children did themselves proud in what was an extremely difficult quiz. Well done boys!

Here are some pictures of the medal winners and the quiz team.

To mark this memorable weekend's success there is no homework for many children for this week and the younger children will have less or will do some of their homework in school.

Comhghairdeas le duine agus go leir ag an Naomh Colman!
