🌿Fraction Fun in the Forest P3/4 🌿
Today, our P3/4 learners took their numeracy . After exploring fractions indoors, the class headed outside to use natural materials — sticks, stones, leaves and pinecones — to show what they know about parts and wholes.
-
P3 pupils got creative making ½ and ¼ using forest finds, showing great teamwork and understanding as they discussed how to divide their “wholes” evenly.
-
P4 pupils went even further, exploring ½, ¼, ¾ and all the way up to tenths! They also worked on recognising equivalent fractions — discovering that ½ is the same as 2/4 or 3/6 by building and comparing their fractions with natural materials. It was fantastic to see so many “aha!” moments as they spotted these!
For an extra challenge, P4 problem-solvers tackled questions like:
“If you cover 1/5 of a shape with leaves, how many fifths are left uncovered?”
It was wonderful to see the class combining mathematical thinking with creativity and teamwork in the fresh air. 🌳
