🚒 P1 on Fire… Station Adventures!
Primary 1 had the most exciting day exploring our World Around Us topic Journeys with a very special visit to the local fire station! Firemen Thomas and Mervin looked after us so well and taught us all about the journey of a fire engine from the first beep of the pager to getting the engine on the road in just 8 minutes!
We were amazed to learn that the firefighters have 15 seconds to get into their special fire-proof clothes. Mrs Charleton and Mrs Colgan even had a little competition to see who could get dressed the fastest… much to the children’s delight!
The firefighters gave us some very important safety messages too.
🔸 Every child should know their home address in case they ever need to dial 999.
🔸 Families should test their fire alarms regularly. If you don’t have a working alarm, the fire station will fit one for free.
We explored the fire engine and all the equipment used on different journeys for fires, road accidents, rescues, helping the ambulance and even people who are stuck. We saw grinders, air tanks, hoses and a huge fan that can blow or suck smoke.
Everyone got to try the hose, hear the siren and even sit on the fire engine. Some very lucky children even had a little spin in it! Everything was fully cleaned and sanitised, ready for its next big journey.
A fantastic, fun-filled day of learning and plenty of future firefighters in the making!
