Exploring Length in Forest School πΏπ
Our Primary 2 class took their learning outdoors this week as part of our Forest School session, focusing on the concept of length in a fun and practical way!
The children explored the forest area and were challenged to measure a variety of natural objects using non-standard units. Armed with cubes, they worked together to measure sticks, logs, leaves and even tree roots. The boys and girls carefully placed their cubes end-to-end, learning how to measure accurately and compare lengths.
There was great excitement as the children discovered which objects were longer or shorter. They used mathematical language such as longer than, shorter than and about the same length, confidently sharing their findings with their friends.
This hands-on experience allowed the children to:
- Develop their understanding of length
- Practise measuring using non-standard units
- Build teamwork and communication skills
- Enjoy learning in the natural environment
It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm, curiosity and collaboration throughout the session. Forest School continues to provide meaningful opportunities for active, outdoor learning while bringing classroom topics to life!
Well done, P2! π³β¨
