🛠️ P3/4 STEM: Inspired by Izzy Gizmo! 🐦✈️
In our Literacy lessons, P3/4 have been reading Izzy Gizmo, the story of an inventor who helps a crow fly again by designing a clever mechanical wing.
Inspired by Izzy, we took on our own STEM challenge today: How could we help a bird fly?
Our P3/4 inventors put their thinking caps on and got to work designing and building their own flying birds using paper and straws. We explored how shape, balance, and airflow affect flight.
We discovered that when we blew into the straw, the air pressure built up behind the paper bird. Once the air had nowhere else to go, it pushed the bird forward and up into the air!
This simple experiment helped us understand how air can be used to create movement — just like how real birds use air and wing shape to glide and soar. The playground was soon filled with fluttering creations and excited voices as our birds took to the skies. Well done, P3/4 – Izzy Gizmo would be proud!
