🧮✨ Maths Week 2025 P3/4
P3/4 had a fantastic time celebrating Maths Week 2025 with a range of exciting, hands-on activities that helped us see how maths is everywhere — even outdoors! 🌿
We began the week exploring patterns in nature 🌼. We noticed how petals, pinecones, and leaves often follow repeating or symmetrical patterns. Pupils then created their own repeating patterns using colours, shapes, and natural materials they found around the playground.
P4 pupils took their learning further by using reasoning and prediction skills to work out what the 20th, 50th, and even 100th item would be in a repeating sequence 🔢. There was lots of great teamwork and discussion as they spotted pattern rules and explained their thinking. 💭
Later in the week, we moved our learning outside to make 2D shapes ⭕🔺🟩 using chalk, sticks, and skipping ropes. The children had fun identifying sides, corners, and angles — and even created giant shapes together!
We also explored measuring 📏 — first using non-standard units like hand spans and footsteps, then moving on to standard measurements in metres. Pupils measured playground equipment and distances, comparing their results and discovering how accurate measurements help us every day!
Maths Week was a wonderful opportunity for P3/4 to explore, problem-solve, and discover that maths isn’t just something we do in our books — it’s everywhere around us! 🌟
