🍂 Forest School: P2 Autumn Colour Hunt
On this sunny autumn day, Primary 2 went outdoors for a Forest School session connected to our World Around Us topic on the senses, with this week’s focus being sight. Taking time out of our busy day and get into nature is so relaxing. In a mindful way we observed — taking time to look closely, up and down, near and far at all the amazing signs that Autumn is here.
We set off to explore and find leaves, twigs, berries and other natural items showing autumn colours — reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and lingering greens.
Along the way, we paused to compare shades:
“Is this yellow leaf more gold or lemon?”
“Does that brown twig look more red or orange in the sunlight?”
“Why is this leaf a little yellow, red and brown?”
We compared different shades of colour used a colour. We used words like “copper,” “amber,” “rust.”
We also talked about:
- How changing light (sunshine, shadow) affects the appearance of colour. In the sunshine and in the shade.
- How leaves change colour in autumn — what was hiding under the green as the chlorophyll fades away.
- Unusual shades we discovered (like leaf tips edged in red or veins still green).
This session helped us deepen our awareness of how we use sight to explore the world around us — especially colours — and how autumn provides such a rich palette for learning.
