🚀 “Engineering in Action: P3/4
P3/4 have been combining literacy and STEM in an exciting challenge! After reading Rosie Revere, Engineer we were inspired by Rosie’s creativity to become engineers ourselves.
Our task was to design and build a parachute that would allow a Lego figure to land softly and safely.
Working in teams, pupils planned, and tested their designs — showing excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills throughout.
As part of their investigations, the children explored several key scientific ideas:
-
Size and shape of the canopy: How does changing the size or shape affect the amount of air resistance?
-
Length of the strings: Does a longer string help the parachute stay open and stable?
-
Weight of the Lego figure: How does weight influence how fast the parachute falls?
We discussed what worked well, what could be improved, and how real engineers use evidence to make design decisions.
This lesson not only
Well done, P3/4 engineers — your curiosity and creativity truly took flight! 🪂✨
