Happy out...in the garden

13th Jun 2020

Hello girls and boys 🌻

We are so lucky at school to have so much space both indoors and outdoors. Every day at school some time is given to your class for outdoor learning.

Over the past number of weeks we have seen such amazing outdoor activities while you have been at home. There has been a wealth of learning going on as you were having fun! You have had a special week this week to celebrate outdoor learning, Your teachers and support staff, with the help of your mums and dads, planned very interesting and exciting activities for you. During last week we also had our Daisy Dander. Thank you to the boys and girls who took part and for the donations you made to various charities.

Our Garden Gang at school is a very busy group of P7 children. They are extremely interested in gardening. They are taught many important skills. The adults who work with the Garden Gang, Liz and Barney, share their expertise and knowledge with the children. They meet every Friday morning. We always know where the Garden Gang is working because we can hear the happy chatter and laughter.

Aaron Curran and Jack Harper are the head gardeners this year. Here is a message from Aaron:

'When I was picked to be the leader of the Garden Gang I was very happy. Jack and I worked with Liz and Barney with the rest of the Garden Gang to plant flowers and to keep the grounds looking pretty and healthy.

I miss being out in the school's garden with them. I have put what I have learned to good practice at home over these hard times. I wore my Garden Gang badge every day with pride.

I hope the next Garden Gang will enjoy this role within the school as much as I did. And that they keep up with all the work that we started.

I am really going to miss St Colman's a lot especially the teachers and support staff'.

From Aaron Curran P7 (Head of Garden Gang 2020)

Liz and Barney also have sent messages to you. They have been busy in their gardens.

'Hello boys and girls. I hope you are keeping well. I just want to encourage you to keep planting some flowers or seeds in your garden or flower pots. As you can see in the photo I like my planters of flowers. You can make a planter from anything. Enjoy the summer and hope to see you all soon' From Barney

Liz has sent a video message.

Here is a small snippet of some of the gardening activities which some children have been doing during home learning and also some pictures of outdoor activities from last week.
