Play Matters

Never before has play been so important for children’s health and wellbeing. It is through play that a child makes sense of the world that they are living in - a world at the minute, for many children, that is full of change and uncertainty.

Children need time to relax, rest and play every day. (Article 31, UNCRC). It is important to make time for play every day.

PlayBoard NI (the lead agency for children’s play) have kindly shared the following: Play Matters - Play for Parents guide https://www.playboard.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/PlayBoard-Play-For-Parents-Guide-2019.pdf

This guide will provide parents with lots of tips and information about children’s play.

Also being shared is a flyer and link: https://www.playboard.org/play-ideas this is a resource bank full of playful ideas for parents to try at home.

Play is both a fun and a learning experience.Play helps children to build resilience and cope with stress. Play allows children to learn new skills and make sense of the world around them.

A child’s play later develops into hobbies for a teenager and adult alike, and may sometimes even shape a career choice.

We have seen many examples of play during Wellbeing Wednesday and other days. Thank you for being the best parents and for everything you do! Children play because they just want to have fun - multiple benefits are gained without children even trying.
